Clinical Director

The Area Substance Abuse Council, ASAC, is seeking a full time Clinical Director, who will be responsible to supervise the structure and delivery of our clinical programs.  This position will be have a primary office in Cedar Rapids, but will be responsible for all five counties in our service area.  The ASAC Clinical Director will have a team of staff who manage outpatient, residential, and halfway house programs offered to youth and adults with substance use disorders.  It will be expected that the Clinical Director continuously monitor and refine the treatment and recovery programs to best serve the needs of patients, families, and the communities we serve.  The right candidate for this position will minimally have: Bachelor’s Degree in human services, be a certified or licensed substance abuse counselor,  and have at least 3 years supervisory experience.  The candidate should have strong leadership, communication, and technology skills.

Cedar Rapids – Patient Support Staff Coordinator

ASAC has an opening for a full-time supervisor of patient support staff at our Heart of Iowa location. We are looking for the right team-focused candidate to lead the direct care of the patients who reside in our care 24 hours a day.  Heart of Iowa is a residential and halfway house program that provides substance abuse treatment for women and our focus is building stronger family relationships.  Up to 36 families can be in services at any one time.

The right candidate should have proficiency in supervision, direct patient care and communication. As well, the candidate should have proficiency in computer skills.

Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services, or related field preferred. Two years’ work experience in substance abuse or other health related setting. General knowledge of staff supervision, good written and oral communication skills and knowledge of substance abuse licensure standards. Cedar Rapids – Residential Patient Support Recovery Center

The Area Substance Abuse Council (ASAC) has on-call Residential Patient Support Positions for 3:00 pm-11:30 pm and 11:15 pm – 7:15 am shifts. Recovery Center is a substance abuse residential program for men and women.

Qualifications:

  • Experience supervising clients in a substance abuse/mental health residential setting preferred
  • Medication management experience preferred
  • Good communication skills required, along with being a good role model for our clients
  • HS Diploma or GED required
  • Good driving record required and will need to pass criminal and child abuse back ground checks
  • Proficiency in computer skills
  • Comfortable working with a diverse population of men and women

Recovery Center is a substance abuse residential program for men and women.

The Area Substance Abuse Council (ASAC) has a part- time, 11:15pm-7:15am, Friday and Saturday Residential Patient Support Position at our Heart of Iowa (HOI) program. ASAC’s HOI is a substance abuse residential program for women with their children and women who are pregnant.

Cedar Rapids – Intake Coordinator/Case Manager – Heart of Iowa

POSITION DESCRIPTION SUMMARY:  Coordinates referrals to the Heart of Iowa program, provides clinical intake to residential clients, and provides case management for residential clients.

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:  The Intake Coordinator/Case Manager  will coordinate the referral process for the Heart of Iowa Primary Residential, Halfway House, and Outpatient Programs.  The Intake Coordinator/Case Manager will conduct the intake and assessment process of new clients coming into the Heart of Iowa Primary Residential and Halfway House programs.  The Intake Coordinator/Case Manager will conduct for providing case management to clients in the Heart of Iowa Primary Residential and Halfway House Program.  The employee in this position is responsible to the Director of Heart of Iowa.

DIMENSIONS/SCOPE OF POSITION:  Receives referrals to the Heart of Iowa Primary Residential, Halfway House, and Outpatient programs; recruits clients to the Heart of Iowa program; maintains a positive working relationship with referral sources; provides screening of these referrals, requests assessments and pre-authorization, and coordinates the intake process;  schedule client’s date of admission, assigns rooms; coordinates moves for residential clients from campus to apartments; receives new clients entering Heart of Iowa residential for the clinical intake process; communicates information to assigned counselor;  provides referral and case management services to residential clients in the Heart of Iowa; communicates and maintains a positive working relationship with Heart of Iowa Primary residential, Halfway House, and Outpatient counselors.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:  Thorough knowledge of intake and assessment, case management, and referral, as it relates to substance abuse treatment;  comprehensive knowledge of community resources, organizations, and agencies; ability to work with a team; ability to effectively manage time; ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Bachelors degree in Substance Abuse Counseling, Social Work, Human Services, or related field, or equivalent experience.  Must be able to obtain IBSAC certification within 18 months of hire.  Must be able to pass a State Child Abuse reference check.

Cedar Rapids – Assistant Director, Women & Children Services – Heart of Iowa

POSITION DESCRIPTION SUMMARY: The Assistant Director will supervise the HOI counselors. The Assistant Director will ensure that ASAC policies and procedures are followed at all times. The Assistant Director will assist in managing the program and providing support to staff in the absence of the Director of Women & Children Services. Facilitates and assists when a counselor is out ill or on vacation.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Supervision of counselors to ensure delivery of substance abuse treatment/behavioral health services; monitoring the provision of care and patient records to ensure the needs of patients are met in accordance with agency expectations
  • Assist in the development of the HOI treatment program structure and schedule, to include counselor assignment and contracted services
  • Participate in weekly HOI management team meetings and shift change meetings when necessary
  • Lead regular clinical staff meetings, providing feedback on services to the Director
  • Monitors the quality of patient treatment and reporting documentation in all systems and initiates prompt corrective actions if required.
  • Responsible for contract and grant compliance and serve as a liaison with funders, state regulatory agencies, community partners and other provider organizations.
  • Provide administrative back-up for the Director as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Substance Abuse Counseling, Social Work, Human Services, Counseling or related field; a certified or licensed counselor.
  • Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of therapies, techniques, and modalities of substance abuse treatment: thorough knowledge of substance and their effects on the body; ability to effectively manage time; ability to communicate effectively; thorough knowledge of various theories and techniques in working with disadvantaged populations; ability to prepare clear, concise, and accurate reports; and thorough knowledge of techniques involving the evaluation of counseling skills.
  • Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience in a substance abuse or behavioral health program and at least 2 years management experience supervising, hiring and evaluating staff.
  • Strong management skills
  • Professional attitude and attire, dependable, reliable, role model and flexible
  • Ability to work on a daily basis utilizing standard office equipment
  • Ability to use computer system, software and to work well with technology
  • Ability to use independent judgment, analytical/decision-making skills, verbal and written communication skills, human relations skills, team working skills, and organizational skills.
  • This position consists of frequent sitting and/or standing for extended periods of time.

JOB DUTIES: Follow all DOT regulations and safety standards. Notify Supervisor immediately of any violations/accidents occurring during your work assignments. Complete a daily van inspection for safety each day, including tires and seatbelts are all operational. All transportation requests are determined by the Supervisor. Follow established routing, and meet timed schedule for appointments. Record and complete mileage logs daily. Submit receipts for all purchases daily. Deliver reports, communications, and variety of items to all ASAC sites as directed. Be able to lift up to 25lbs on a consistent basis. Ensure that all agency vehicles are serviced on schedule, conducting periodic checks on the service tag. Ensure agency vehicle is refuelled and clean at all times.Client concerns need be directed to your Supervisor

REQUIREMENTS: References from Supervisor of prior employment. Valid driver’s license. Good driving record. Proof of car insurance. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Background check and Tuberculosis test required.


Cedar Rapids – Cook

We are currently accepting applications for the following cooks positions:

  • Regular Part-time: 2 days a week Monday –Tuesday 9-6 PM. Additional hours available if desired.
  • On-call: Individual to cook at HOI and ASAC kitchen as need arises.

Position Description: Supervises operation of kitchen/dining area. Responsible for menu planning, meal preparation and clean up. Supervise clients working in kitchen. Handles all USDA and Child Food and Nutrition Reports.

Minimum Job Requirements: Cooking experience. Staff and/or client supervisory experience preferred. Knowledge of USDA, Iowa Department of Health and local health regulations. Must be able to relate in a positive manner to clients, staff and general public. Must have transportation to work and for food purchasing.

Cedar Rapids – Child Care

The ASAC Heart of Iowa Women and Children’s Recovery Center is seeking full-time and part-time childcare providers who have a passion to help children thrive developmentally and who enjoys a rewarding challenge.  Heart of Iowa is a residential and halfway house program that provides substance abuse treatment for women and our focus is building stronger family relationships.  Up to 36 families can be in services at any one time and we are licensed to serve 82 children.  Full-time and part-time staff are needed for various shifts, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00am and 8:00pm. Children range in age from newborns to adolescents, who are living with their mothers who are in recovery from their addiction.  The successful candidates will possess experience working in a licensed childcare center, have enthusiasm, leadership skills, able to take initiative and a solid understanding of child development. AA in Early Childhood Education encouraged but not required.
