Recovery in Real Life

See substance use recovery from a patient’s perspective.

Every patient has a “When I Found ASAC” story. It frequently starts with a person finding us at the lowest point in their life, but it’s about where it goes from there—the transformation they make for the better. And recovery is often where these success moments flourish.

Read on to discover a few of the pillars of our recovery services along with words from some of our patients.

Recovery’s Role

“Some of the practices and content staff shared were things that I knew about, but never leaned into enough, and I have found them to be extremely helpful in reducing stress and anxiety while finding peace within my life.”

-ASAC Patient

Recovery serves as a bridge, connecting people with the resources they need after treatment to have the best chance at continuing to progress without drugs, alcohol, or other substances. These resources could include any of the following:

  • Continuing Care
  • Counseling
  • Transitional Housing

Our staff also works with patients to find employment, childcare, and long-term living arrangements. When it comes together, our recovery services create stability for people to move forward and upward.

Peer Relief

ASAC’s peer recovery coaches are former patients who can both relate and encourage current patients on their recovery journeys. This role epitomizes our human-centered approach, making the connections that make a difference. Through consistent interactions and honest conversations, our coaches see patient progress firsthand.

“We have been working on small goals. [The patient] now got a full-time job at Mercy Hospital and starts in a couple weeks. She is also learning to be a present mom of two small children, and it’s been fun getting to know them!”

“Slow Your Roll”

One of our peer recovery coaches has embraced this phrase.

Because the reality is that recovery takes time. That might seem obvious, but people often think that treatment is the toughest part. The truth is that patients in recovery can experience the same peaks and valleys. That’s why we stay connected with patients and focus on small, incremental steps—knowing they can eventually lead to big strides toward long-term success.

“Thank you for helping me realize I can have a happy and successful life without substances. I found a purpose and came to the realization that what I do matters.”
